openSUSE Smeegol: First MeeGo working on Nvidia ION hardware
openSUSE Goblin Team released Smeegol 1.0, their first edition with the MeeGo UI.
More information about the release you can find at http://news.opensuse.org/2010/10/06/announcing-smeegol-1-0/
I always tried to give MeeGo a try on a netbook with Nvidia ION accelerated graphics but MeeGo doesn’t support that so far. MeeGo forums member vljn posted about a workaround to install MeeGo on Nvidia hardware but that never worked for me.
Yesterday I gave openSUSE Smeegol 1.0 a try and I was suprised that it booted without a flaw into the livemode and after I installed it worked without any graphic problems. The MyZone was still broken and I could not get any G3 or WLAN connection, so I plugged in my LAN cable and tried to update. For any reason the Update Manager broke with “Untrusted Keyring” so I started to update in terminal with …
sudo zypper refresh sudo zypper dup
After the update I tried to reboot and wondered “Where the h… is the reboot button?”. I did not found yet
So i pressed the turn off key on my netbook. After new boot the MyZone was shown but still no wireless connection possible.
I am suprised why openSUSE Smeegol 1.0 works with Nvidia like a flaw and why MeeGo does not. If someone is willing to explain to me that would be cool
But so far thank you openSUSE for your work.
